Facebook’s idealized physical image policy

On Monday we were excited to share with our readers that two of our favorite actors were dating. As with most of our posts, once we are live, we share the post with our Facebook page and we run Facebook ads to promote them.

We were surprised to find out that the “ad wasn’t approved because its image violates Facebook’s Ad Guidelines by promoting an idealized physical image.”

So we decided to run a small test. We added pixelation to both Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello and submitted the ad again. The one with the pixelation – the one that looks like a bad edit from a porn movie – was approved, and it is still live.

We are not sure we understand Facebook’s Ad Guidelines and their idea of “idealized physical image.” Clearly all of the fashion ads and well endowed photos we see are ok, but Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello are not. Sorry Sofia and Joe.
