Band Aid 30 single raises $1 million in five minutes, Organizer Bob Geldof said.

One Direction, U2’s Bono, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran were among the stars who gathered in London to record a new version of the 1984 “Do They Know It’s Christmas.”

Bob Geldof, who co-wrote the 1984 song with Midge Ure, tweaked the lyrics of the new 2014 version to address the Ebola crisis in West Africa.

Michael Hann from The Guardian has a great report of the song “Band Aid have changed in each of the four versions but the winning formula has been the same for 30 years” and while we are glad that the song was able to raise $1 million in five minutes, the energy of the 1984 version will not be matched.
